John Shannon grew up in Pittsburgh PA under the tutelage of local jazz greats Dwayne Dolphin and Eric Kloss while also studying modern harmony with local pipe organist Mike Ross before going onto Berklee College of Music to earn his Bachelor’s in Music Performance studying there with the likes of Mick Goodrick, Wayne Krantz and Hal Crook.

After school, John relocated to New York City where he worked and toured many parts of the globe with artists such as Hiromi, Sonya Kitchell, and Pyeng Threadgill while making 3 of his own albums for French record label ObliqSound.

During his time in NYC John also wrote and performed all guitars for hit TV Series “Louie” on FX as well as had the opportunity to perform on Late Night with David Letterman and Carnegie Hall.

After a 2 year touring stint in Australia with a burlesque rock’n roll circus, John relocated back to Pittsburgh where he eventually opened up Live Jazz Bar and Restaurant "Con Alma” championing the Pittsburgh Jazz Legacy and current local jazz scene along with spear-heading a fresh atmosphere for the Pittsburgh nightlife. John will perform at the Monroeville Jazz Festival with his regular Con Alma trio consisting of Pittsburgh jazz musicians bassist Tony DePaolis and drummer Tom Wendt.
