Etta Cox is one of Pittsburgh’s most celebrated jazz vocalists. She began singing at age three and later earned a college degree in Music Education and Voice before gravitating to jazz in her mid‑20s Cox was voted “Best Jazz Vocalist” in Pittsburgh for eight consecutive years, named Performer of the Year by the Pittsburgh Post‑Gazette in 1999, and was selected as one of the “25 Most Powerful Women in Pittsburgh” by Pittsburgh Magazine.
She frequently performed with trombonist Al Dowe, opening for legends such as Ray Charles, Doc Severinsen, and Danny Glover, and co‑owned the jazz club Dowe’s on Ninth in downtown Pittsburgh. In addition to her performing career, Cox is a dedicated music educator at Pittsburgh's CAPA school, where she has taught vocal and jazz history for many years.
